Important Information
Although Furman has sunk into a three-game homestand, they will quickly be need to get out their road shirts. At 6:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Cameron Hall will host a Southern rivalry between them and the VMI Keydets. With an offensive production of 76.6 points per game on the season, the Paladins are coming in strong.
Chattanooga made sure that Furman didn’t go in after a victory, despite what the experts projected. Chattanooga defeated Furman 75–71. After jumping out to a 22-6 lead in the first, the Paladins were unable to maintain their advantage.
Despite losing, Furman had a number of players step up and make significant contributions. Perhaps the greatest was Nick Anderson, who scored fifteen points on five of seven shooting. Anderson set a new career best in field goal percentage (71.4%) as a result of his strong performance. Cooper Bowser was another vital cog in the wheel, with nine points, seven boards, and two steals.
On the other hand, VMI prevailed 75-70 over The Citadel in a game played on Saturday. With this triumph, the Keydets extended their winning streak to three games.
Rickey Bradley Jr. was a big contributor, scoring 29 points and grabbing five rebounds on 6-for-9 shooting. A.J. Clark contributed to the team’s success with 10 points, 8 boards, and 2 blocks.
With the loss, Furman’s record fell to 15-4. The win snapped VMI’s eight-game road losing streak and improved their record to 8-11.
Furman has been a monster on the boards this season, averaging 36.7 boards per game, so that stat should play a significant role in this matchup. On the other hand, VMI has been averaging 36.7 in that department, so it’s not like they have any problems there. We will see if one side can gain an advantage as they both fight to recover missed shots.
In their most recent meeting in February of 2024, Furman prevailed over VMI 75–62. Furman may find the rematch to be slightly more challenging than the first game because they will not be playing at home. The impact of the new location will be evaluated later on.
