Following their Thursday night appearance on TNT’s Inside the NBA, the league formally announced the 2025 NBA All-Star reserves (Twitter links). The All-Star Game in San Francisco on February 16 will include 14 players in addition to the 10 starters that were announced last week. The head coaches of the league choose the All-Star reserves
Reserves for the Eastern Conference:
Celtics guard Jaylen Brown
Cade Cunningham is the guard. The pistons
Guard: Lillard, Damian Bucks
Guard: Cavaliers’ Darius Garland
Tyler Herro, guard Warmth
Cavaliers’ Evan Mobley in the frontcourt
Pacers’ Pascal Siakam in the frontcourt
Cunningham, Herro, and Mobley are the three first-time All-Stars from the East. With Trae Young of Atlanta, Zach LaVine of Chicago, LaMelo Ball of Charlotte, and Tyrese Maxey of Philadelphia among the contenders, the guard positions in the East were extremely competitive. Ball’s victory in the fan vote had little impact on the coach’s choices.
With Garland and Mobley joining Donovan Mitchell, who was selected a starter last week, the Cavaliers have a strong presence in San Francisco. Garland was chosen an All-Star in the 2021–2022 season, and this is his second All-Star selection. Despite having a strong chance, Jarrett Allen was ultimately not elected.
This is Siakam’s third All-Star participation, Lillard’s eighth, and Jaylen Brown’s fourth.
Reserves for the Western Conference:
Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards
Guard: Clippers’ James Harden
Frontcourt: Lakers’ Anthony Davis
Jaren Jackson Jr., Grizzlies, frontcourt
Rockets’ Alperen Sengun in the frontcourt
Frontcourt: Thunder, Jalen Williams
Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama in the frontcourt
Sengun, Williams, and Wembanyama are all first-time All-Stars. Wembanyama, the Rookie of the Year from the previous season, has improved in a number of ways to enable the Spurs finish 20–24 and qualify for the Play-In round. Williams and Sengun, meanwhile, both lead their teams in the Western Conference.
Edwards is having a career year from beyond the arc, making 41.8% of his 9.8 three-point attempts in his third consecutive and total appearance. We previously discussed how, despite their 31-16 record this season, the Grizzlies saw Jackson as a legitimate star.
The West reserves are completed by veterans Harden and Davis. The most decorated reserve, Harden, is making his 11th game appearance and is averaging 21.7 points and 8.4 assists this season at the age of 35. As he makes his tenth All-Star selection, Davis remains one of the league’s best defensive players. Although Davis has been sidelined for at least a week due to an injury, it is unknown if this would impact his availability for the All-Star Game, which is more than two weeks away.
The Mavericks, who advanced to the NBA Finals the previous season, will not have a representative in the All-Star Game since Kyrie Irving did not win a berth and Luka Doncic is sidelined. Those who were left off the roster included Domantas Sabonis of the Kings, Norman Powell of the Clippers, Devin Booker of the Suns, and De’Aaron Fox of the Kings.
