Charvarius Ward: Since my daughter passed away, living in California has been challenging

Cornerback Charvarius Ward, who played in five of the last six games for the 49ers, returned on Monday to discuss how difficult it was for him to be a part of the team following the death of his daughter Amani, who was one year old, in October.

“The worst thing that’s ever happened to me” occurred in California, so returning there after his daughter’s death “just brings up bad memories,” according to Ward. Because of the anguish they experienced as a result of their loss, Ward has also been distant from his family, which has grown to include his son’s arrival in December.

Ward, who is set to become a free agency in the next offseason, has stated that his emotions surrounding a potential return to the 49ers will influence his decision-making process.

According to ESPN.com’s Nick Wagoner, Ward stated, “I go through that every day.” Every night, I travel home by myself because my girlfriend refuses to return to California due to what transpired. Being alone is tough, but she is my rock at the moment. Being apart from her while I’m in California would be difficult because I rely on her.

Ward expressed his gratitude for the support he received throughout the season and expressed his desire to continue playing in 2025, saying it “took everything physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually” for him to finish the season strong.
