Commanders Anticipated to Reunite Coach Dan Quinn with Another Cowboys Star

The fact that the Washington Commanders could yet improve upon their already impressive performance is one of the most terrifying aspects of playing in the NFL against them.

Coaching and leadership from commanders, staff, and veterans like Bobby Wagner, a linebacker, will continue to play a role in that improvement.

Recruiting future free agents to Washington to bolster the roster’s talent levels is another component of that ongoing effort to rebuild a franchise formerly perceived as close or at the league’s bottom.

This is where DeMarcus Lawrence, a defensive end for the Dallas Cowboys, comes into play, says Pro Football Focus.

Despite the Commanders’ incredible season, which saw them surpass all expectations and earn a playoff berth, their defence might use some serious upgrades. The defensive front is no exception; Dante Fowler Jr. is a free agent, and the only player with a pass-rush win percentage higher than 11% was Dorance Armstrong, according to PFF. Although the 32-year-old Lawrence missed most of 2024 with a foot injury, he had a spectacular 2023. Among defensive players who played 500 snaps or more last season, Lawrence tied for ninth place with an overall PFF grade of 91.0. Just one of three players, including Lawrence, had a pass-rushing grade of 91.0 or higher and a run-defense grade of 79.0 or higher, demonstrating how versatile his game is. It would be a great match for the Commanders if Dan Quinn could rejoin the team to bolster their run defence and pass rush.
Lawrence may not have as strong of a market as he would like because of his age and injury history. This could work out well for Commanders general manager Adam Peters, who made a good impression in his first year on the job by being aggressive without spending too much on roster additions.

As more Cowboys get swayed by the concept of taking a side in this traditional NFC East Division rivalry, the dynamic between Quinn and defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. will undoubtedly become a major talking point in this context.

If Lawrence were to join the other Dallas players in making the move to Washington, it would be hard to argue that the pass rush wouldn’t be instantly improved in 2025 with his arrival. However, the team would probably focus on developing new talent to complement him.
