Efraín Juárez’s debut match as Pumas coach in Liga MX ended in a 1-3 victory over Puebla, thanks to goals from Piero Quispe, Guillermo Martínez, and Ali Ávila. The match took place at the Cuauhtémoc Stadium.

La Franja went up just ten minutes into the game. Alex Padilla made a diving save from a long-range attempt, but the ball slid just outside the six-yard box. It was because of this that Facundo Waller was able to put the locals ahead of the game by making the ‘law of the ex’ work.

Waller granted the Strip an advantage.

With Angulo gone, Pumas had the upper hand.
Two things happened, though, and the game altered. A double yellow card forced Brayan Angulo off the field just before halftime. Subsequently, during the second half, Efraín Juárez substituted Leo Suárez, who had been out injured for over seven months, for the starting lineup. And once he was on the field, Pumas’ offensive threat increased.

Taking advantage of their numerical advantage, the visiting squad knotted the game at 59′. Just over thirty minutes after Leo Suárez’s cross, Rogelio Funes Mori fought for the ball in the air, and Piero Quispe headed it goalward with a first-time effort, giving the Felinos a fighting chance to score and complete the comeback.

The students at the institution managed to reverse the score.
Finally, in the 75th minute, the students from the institution finished the comeback. Guillermo Martínez scored to make it 1-2 after Miguel Jiménez saved a shot by Jorge Ruvalcaba inside the box following a move down the right flank. ‘Memote’ already fired a shot to Ali Ávila in stoppage time, and he made it 1-3 with a simple push of the ball.

Pumas finished with 14 points after 11 rounds, however they still didn’t make it into the Play Ins because of this performance. Meanwhile, Puebla’s eight points kept them in sixteenth place.

In the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup Round of 16, Efraín Juárez’s club, who are currently leading 2-0, will meet Alajuelense this week. Additionally, Rayados will be hosted by them in the Estadio Olímpico Universitario two days after that.
