Historically, Mexico has excelled over Canada in international competitions; however, in recent years, the Canadians have posed a significant challenge to El Tri. Canada drew with and defeated Mexico in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying, achieving victory against Mexico for the first time in over twenty years.
Mexico has reached the semifinals in all four editions of the Nations League, suffering defeats to the United States on two occasions and securing a third-place finish in 2023. After gaining an automatic bye to the quarterfinals, Mexico defeated Honduras to progress to the final four.
Canada followed a comparable trajectory to the semifinals, obtaining a bye to the final eight before decisively defeating Suriname in their quarterfinal encounter. Canada is attempting to return to the final match for the first time in two years.
Historically, Mexico holds a record of 24 wins, 10 draws, and 6 losses against Canada, having triumphed in five of the six encounters in the CONCACAF Gold Cup.
